The community experienced a morning of terror on Saturday. “We just woke up with a loud bang and everything in the house started to lean over,” one neighbor told WJZ.

Police say the suspect, Everton Green, shot and killed Ismael Quintanilla and Sara Alcote.

“We literally saw him with a black sweatsuit on, he has one hand on the screen door and he’s in the motion like kicking in their door to go into the house and at that point, I’m like oh my gosh, he’s going in our next-door neighbor’s house,” a neighbor who did not want to be identified told WJZ.

Another neighbor directly across the street told WJZ that she saw everything, including the moment Green chased Alcote outside the house.

“Then we saw his next-door neighbor, she was covered in blood. She just collapsed in the street,” says that neighbor who also didn’t want to give her name.

Sagar Ghimire is the third victim who was shot and killed. He posted pictures from graduation just days ago. The 24-year-old is from Nepal and Claflin University said he was a presidential scholar who moved to Maryland for graduate school.

A Nepalese man in the area said his family was in the same house as Ghimire. He said his young son is now having flashbacks.

“Your son is having nightmares,” asked Ava-joye Burnett. “Yeah,” he answered. “My son and my wife she’s still crying. My family in the country, they’re crying.”

The Baltimore Association of Nepalese in America started a Go-Fund page to help the two victims from Nepal.

With an emphasis on local, it’s given to you in every mug. Bubbling with pride, Black Acres Roastery is the latest partner handing guests a coffee experience that very few in the country have seen, which is In-Room Pour Over Coffee, a rising trend in the industry.

Travis Bell leads the way for Black Acres Roastery.

“Here in Baltimore, we want that to be something that’s easily accessible for everyone no matter where you live in the city,” said Bell.

“SEYA” is their signature blend. The bag design is the family tree, followed by the multi-colored flag representing unity, strength and culture. It’s named after the Southeastern Youth Association on Eastern Avenue. Every cup tells a story with blends from Brazil and Ethiopia. Black Acres Roastery started on the 3rd floor of SEYA in 2017. For now, it’s subletting space out of Mobtown Brewery in Canton before their own unique home is open one day.

“There’s so much creativity that goes into coffee,” Bell said. “There are so many moving parts in the supply chain, you really get to make connections from the ground all the way to the cup.”

Jason Bass is the Director of Culture & Impact at Hotel Revival.

“It’s not just an experience for the black population in Baltimore,” Bass said while standing in the lower level of Revival. “It’s for everyone who comes here so that they can have an experience that’s been created by a black coffee roaster.”

The focus is on small businesses and quality. The Dashery cafe inside the hotel is home to it replacing Square Meal, the full-service restaurant that was there before. Other local partnerships include crust by Mack and Wight Tea.

With Black Acres Roastery added to the mix, this is a brew you’ll want to catch while it’s hot or cold. Don’t be surprised if you see Black Acres Roastery in a store near you. They plan to be in at least 50 stores across the East Coast including Trader Joe’s by the end of June.

(WJZ) — Towson University officials said the vendor handling purchases of commencement regalia reported a possible cyber incident involving credit card information.

That vendor, Herff Jones, sent a notice to upcoming graduates, who may have made a purchase through them.

Herff Jones reported they were a victim of a cyber attack and that there are reports of possible fraudulent activity on customer’s credit card statement.

At this time, there is no indication that Towson University’s information systems were affected by this incident.

Herff Jones is investigating the incident and which individuals were impacted.

“We encourage students who purchased a cap and gown online to monitor their payment card account statements and credit reports for instances of unauthorized activity,” Towson University said in a statement. “If any suspicious or unusual activity is discovered, we encourage students to report it immediately to their financial institution.”

This is the first Covid-19 vaccine in the United States authorized for use in younger teens and adolescents; the vaccine had previously been authorized for people age 16 and older. Covid-19 vaccines from Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are authorized for use in people age 18 and older.

To support the extended use, the FDA reviewed data submitted by Pfizer. The company said at the end of March that a clinical trial involving 2,260 12-to-15-year-olds showed the vaccine’s efficacy is 100% and it is well tolerated.

The FDA’s independent Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee did not meet to vote on whether to recommend the expansion of the EUA to 12-to-15-year-olds. But the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is scheduled to meet Wednesday to advise CDC on whether to recommend use of the vaccine in this age group. CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky will then decide whether the agency will recommend the vaccine’s use in the new group.

Vaccinations for 12-to-15-year-olds are not expected to begin until after that recommendation. The Biden administration has said it will quickly mobilize to ready vaccinations for 12-to-15-year-olds through the federal pharmacy program, pediatricians and family doctors.

Expanding authorization to people 12 to 15 opens Covid-19 vaccination to another 5% of the US population, nearly 17 million more people. The expanded authorization means 85% of the US population is eligible to receive a Covid-19 vaccine.

Pfizer said last week it expects to submit for emergency use authorization for its Covid-19 vaccine for children ages 2 to 11 years old in September. Its vaccine safety and efficacy study in children ages 6 months to 11 years old is ongoing.

Sean Streicher spoke with Marine Corp Veteran Jonathan Hancock and the film’s director, both from Maryland, about the documentary.

The hike took Hancock across the country. A monumental effort of healing, not just for himself, but for those he visited along the way.

It was a journey that started on Sept. 11, 2015 — a hike that would take combat war veteran Hancock across 19 states from Maryland to California.

“Official logged miles is 5807 miles,” said Hancock.

But this wasn’t just a fun adventure. After two DUIs and a failed suicide attempt, Hancock was looking to tackle issues that stemmed from his eight deployments in eight years.

“In the military, we have such a close and cohesive network,” he said. “And when I left the military, it was almost like the rug was pulled out from under me.”

So he set out hiking, visiting fellow combat veterans and Gold Star families along the way.

“Some of our brothers, and their sons, never came home and for a mother to see a man walk up to them who knows their son, who loved their son, and to see them, they really start to see their own son,” Hancock said. “Then we are able to share in their grief, we share in some of the stories of how it all happens and then we just talk about some of the fun things.”

There were moments that filmmaker Brian Morrison knew he had to capture.

“When I met him, when I was able to meet his marine brothers and their families, I just learned so much about the incredible strength and the bonds and commitment that they have to each other,” Morrison said.

That commitment is on full display in new award winning documentary, “Bastards’ Road.”

“It’s a film about healing, and hope and resilience in the light of post combat challenges and struggles,” Morrison added.

John hopes this film delivers a message to his brothers who are struggling.

“Ultimately it’s that you’re strong and that you’re stronger than you think you are,” Hancock said.

The film Bastards’ Road will be available to rent online starting May 11.

“We’re partnering today with MedStar to get the vaccine into the Pimlico community. The staff and the jockeys and those who participate in Preakness understand that this is what getting back to normal looks like,” said Brigadier General Birckhead. “The Vaccine Equity Task Force is providing every outlet and every avenue of approach to get vaccines into arms.”

The mobile clinic is operated by state partner MedStar Health and will provide free COVID-19 vaccinations supplied by the Vaccine Equity Task Force. The vaccines were given to seasonal workers at Pimlico ahead of 2021 Preakness Stakes horse race scheduled for Saturday, May 15.

“We are thrilled to be able to vaccinate backstretch workers and patients. They are a very hard-working group who care for the horses daily and have had various barriers to receiving vaccines,” said Dr. Kelly Ryan, physician leader on the MedStar Health Horsemen’s Health team. “Many of them are vulnerable due to medical history, age, and living/working conditions. I know how grateful they are for this collaborative effort by MDH, the Vaccine Equity Task Force, and Medstar Health.”

(WJZ) –– Baltimore County Police continue their investigation into an explosion and shooting in Woodlawn Saturday.

Police are looking into the background of 56-year-old Everton Brown, the suspect that shot and killed three of his neighbors and injured another before police shot and killed him.

A preliminary investigation indicates Brown, 56, forced his way into a neighboring house in the 7500 block of Maury Road where he stabbed and shot Ismael Quintanilla, 41, police said. As Sara Alacote, 37, ran from the home in an attempt to escape, Brown chased her outside, shooting her several times and killing her, police said.

When two neighbors emerged from their home, Brown shot both of them, police said. Sagar Ghimire, 24, was killed. The other victim is recovering from his injuries.

During a press conference Monday, police said they are looking into the suspect’s past and how this all unfolded. Only rubble and debris are left where Brown’s home once stood. He had some explosive devices in his vehicle.

Neighbors say they’ve complained about him for years but no action was taken.

Vogel Hill told WJZ, Brown was paranoid and delusional and becoming increasingly unhinged, believing his neighbors were spying on him.

“He would go zero to 100 real quick,” he said.

Hill’s Ring camera captured video of the gunfire, screaming and a panic neighbor running.

“It’s not like we’ve been having been saying no, we’ve been saying for 20 years 20 years and nothing done,” Hill said.

Police said that Brown had two legally-registered weapons. One was confiscated by authorities a few years back, but he’s still did have one with Hhm. They are looking into any encounters and calls they had regarding Mr. Brown.

Frosh joined a coalition of 44 attorney generals urging Facebook to not launch Instagram Kids, a version of the app for children 13 and under.

There are concerns over the safety and well-being of children and the ways social media can hurt them.

In a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the coalition cited these reasons and how the social media giant has failed to protect the welfare of children on its platforms.

“Facebook’s Instagram for children is a dangerous idea,” says Attorney General Frosh. “Facebook should be working to protect children on its social media platforms, and this new app opens another door through which a very vulnerable population can be exploited.”

The various attorney’s general brought up research on social media and it’s effects on children, cyberbullying and the use of vulnerability of children from adults that prey on them online. Instagram has been flagged in the past for increasing suicidal thoughts, depression and body image concerns.

The long season leaves plenty of time for little ups and downs, as the days stretch into weeks and the weeks stretch into months. But a lot has already happened in a season that’s not even a quarter of the way done. That includes injuries to superstars, a likely end to a Hall of Fame career and a string of no-hitters.

This week’s Baseball Report looks at Jacob DeGrom’s injury, what might be the end of Albert Pujol’s MLB career and the surge of no-hitters.

deGrom Injury Probably Not Serious

Inflammation in his right lat had caused DeGrom to miss his last start. So the New York Mets ace took the mound Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks with 10 days of rest. He set down Diamondback batters in order through four innings, while his pitches routinely measured 100 mph on the radar gun. But the fifth inning was a struggle. deGrom gave up a run on three walks and a hit, and no longer looked like himself. He never made it to the sixth inning.

Jacob deGrom has left the game: pic.twitter.com/LPVNJmioMx

— SNY (@SNYtv) May 9, 2021

The Mets pulled deGram during sixth inning warmup. The team later cited “precautionary reasons” based on the “right-side tightness” he was experiencing. The discomfort was said to be centered more toward his lower back than his previous issue. A subsequent MRI, his second in a week, showed no lasting injury.

The problem does not appear to be serious, though the team may very well delay his next start just to be careful with their two-time Cy Young Winner. Including Sunday’s outing, deGrom deGrom has an MLB-low ERA of 0.68, with 65 strikeouts and seven walks in his 40 innings pitched. He’s allowed 17 hits this season.

Pujols Reassigned, Likely Ending MLB Career

Albert Pujols has had an amazing career that dates back 20 years. He spent 2001-2011 with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he put up gaudy stats year in and year out. In that span, Pujols slashed an incredible .328/.420/.617. In that same span, he averaged 40 home runs and 121 RBI per season. The surefire first-ballot Hall of Famer was named MVP three times (2005, 2008, 2009).

Pujols could never quite live up to those stats — or the 10-year, $240 million contract they earned him — in his years with the Angels. From 2012-2020, he slashed .257/.312/.448, averaging 24 HRs and 86 RBI per season.

Last Thursday afternoon the Angels, who are last in the American League West, designated Pujols for assignment in the final year of his contract. This could end his MLB career.

“The Angels organization proudly signed Albert Pujols in 2011, and are honored that he has worn an Angels jersey for nearly half of his Hall of Fame career,” read a statement from team owner Arte Moreno. “Albert’s historical accomplishments, both on and off the field, serve as an inspiration to athletes everywhere, and his actions define what it means to be a true superstar. Since his Rookie of the Year season in 2001, Albert and his wife, Deidre, have generously given their time and resources to countless charities throughout the world. We are thankful to the entire Pujols family.”

In his final season with the Angels, Pujols was hitting a sub-par .198, with five HRs and 12 RBI in his 86 at-bats. The soon-to-be-former Angel has indicated that he hopes to keep playing once he clears waivers and is released. But what team will sign him and at what cost? There are options out there, including St. Louis, where he played the first half of his career. But retirement seems the most likely for the 41-year-old who is well past his prime.

Yet Another No-Hitter

MLB saw two more no-hitters last week. John Means tossed one for the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday against the Seattle Mariners. Two days later, Cincinnati Reds left-hander Wade Miley tossed another against the Cleveland Indians. With four so far this season, MLB pitchers are already approaching the season record not even two weeks into the second month. The record is eight, achieved way back in 1884. And that number doesn’t include a Madison Bumgarner no-hitter for the Diamondbacks in a seven-inning back half of a doubleheader.

Means’s no-hitter was the Orioles’ first solo no-hitter for the team in over five decades. A ball that got past his catcher ruined what would’ve been a perfect game. Miley’s no-hitter marks the second against the Indians this season. His potential perfect game was ruined by an infield error and a walk in the sixth inning. San Diego Padres Joe Musgrove and Chicago White Sox Carlos Rodon own this season’s other two no-hitters.

The low league-wide batting average and high level of strikeouts set the stage for more no-hitters this season. Will the season record fall?

The show has been a life-changer for actor Molly Bernard and she will be sad to see it go after the seventh season wraps up in early June.

CBS Local’s DJ Sixsmith talked with Bernard about playing Lauren Heller, working with Hilary Duff and her new movie “Milkwater.”

“I had just graduated from the Yale School of Drama and I was basically still a student,” said Bernard. “When I booked Younger, I was such a crazy hard worker, so much so that a few of my castmates told me to chill. I auditioned for a six line guest star in the pilot and then it became a seven year family. If I go back that far and think about it, that’s kind of an actor’s dream.”

Everyone’s talking about the final season of #YoungerTV! Watch now on @paramountplus. #ForeverYounger pic.twitter.com/ybSItFKNCq

— Younger (@YoungerTV) May 10, 2021

One of the great joys of this experience for Bernard has been working with Duff. While their characters spend a ton of time together on the show, Bernard and Duff have actually struck up a really great relationship away from the set as well.

“We have become each other’s best friends in a lot of ways,” said Bernard. “I officiated her wedding and I am her daughter’s godmother. I was there for her other daughter’s birth. I feel like I’m her student and parent in training. She is really my best friend and picks up on weird stuff that is going on with me before I do. It happened in season two or season one and we started to have lunch together every day. We friend fell in love.”

While “Younger” is coming to an end for Bernard, she is excited her next project, which is a movie called “Milkwater.” The actor plays a character named Milo who is trying to find herself and decides to become the surrogate for an older gay man she meets at a bar.

“The highlight of Milkwater for me was that it was an impossible project and that’s why I was drawn to it,” said Bernard. “The script was long, but it moves really fast. The challenge was playing someone who has a lot to say very fast and who is pretty lost. She is a millennial who is flailing and she volunteers to be a surrogate for a man she just met. That’s a wild thing and I related to the fact that she was struggling in her late 20s. I was there, I remember it well and I wish I could forget. I wanted to tell that story because I lived that. I wanted to tell that story in a way that would resonate.”

Stream “Younger” on Paramount+ right now.

The shoe manufacturer announced that this week, healthcare workers can sign up on the Crocs website to receive a free pair of the shoes.

The news comes about one year after the company announced a program to donate 10,000 pairs a day to healthcare workers fighting the brand new coronavirus.

“In 2020, Crocs donated over 860,000 free pairs of shoes to healthcare workers on the frontlines of COVID-19,” the company says on its website. “Now, just one year later, there’s no better way to say thank you than by doing it all over again.”

The shoes, made from a rubber-like molded polymer resin, are a popular choice for healthcare workers. Last year, the shoe manufacturer had one of its most successful years ever, reaching record sales.

“Amidst a global pandemic in 2020, we will deliver the strongest revenue in Crocs’ history,” Crocs CEO Andrew Rees said in a statement in January. “Our brand momentum is exceptional, and we anticipate another record year in 2021.”

The brand has also seen its image popularized by collaborations with celebrities, including Justin Bieber and Post Malone.

“We have seen throughout the pandemic that there has been a decline in routine immunizations, and that does concern me greatly as a pediatrician because I know that many children have missed other important vaccines for diseases like measles or whooping cough — which, like Covid-19, can be deadly,” Dr. Lisa Costello, a pediatrician at West Virginia University Medicine Children’s Hospital and a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Committee on State Government Affairs, told CNN.

Parents are urged to get their children caught up on immunizations since, Costello said, eventually younger children could soon also be eligible to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Routine immunizations “fell off a cliff” at pediatrician Dr. Christoph Diasio’s practice in Southern Pines, North Carolina, as the pandemic took hold in the US. Diasio told CNN visits for checkups have gone back up at many pediatric practices in recent weeks, but things aren’t necessarily back to normal.

“The problem is that because we’re behind, you have to go to 130% of normal,” Diasio said, adding that his office needs to spread people out physically and budget more time for each visit to maintain pandemic precautions. “Those are good, solid public health measures to prevent contagion at the doctor’s office, but they also have the net effect of making it very difficult to catch up on some of these things.”

Signs first emerged around the spring of last year that childhood vaccinations have plunged since the pandemic began. One study published in May 2020 by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that the number of childhood vaccines administered in Michigan dropped by as much as 22%.

The CDC recommends that children get 14 different vaccinations protecting against 19 different pathogens. Timing is important for many of the vaccines to create the strongest immunity.

“It’s been documented over the past year that routine childhood immunizations have declined because people weren’t going for well-child exams. People were avoiding health settings when not absolutely necessary, and so those rates dipped,” Jill Rosenthal, senior program director at the National Academy for State Health Policy, told CNN.

Now, “they’re getting back to normal for some populations of kids, and some populations of kids are still a bit behind. So, there’s a real concerted effort right now to catch kids up on those routine immunizations, but there’s also a blackout period that no one can have other vaccines at the same time that they’re getting the Covid-19 vaccine,” Rosenthal said.

“So, it’s an interesting dilemma of how states and providers are going to think about trying to catch kids up at the same time that the Covid-19 vaccine is becoming available (for children ages 12 to 15) — and particularly right now because a lot of the catchup routine immunizations happen as a result of school requirements,” Rosenthal said. “Summer, maybe early fall, is a time where you see concerted efforts to make sure kids are fully immunized.”

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends leaving two weeks between other vaccines and getting the Covid-19 vaccine.

“We do not yet know whether we will be able to co-administer vaccines — meaning you may have to get the Covid-19 vaccine solo, not with other vaccines,” Costello said.

The Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine, which is being considered for authorization in children and teens ages 12 to 15, is administered as two doses, three weeks apart.

“Then you have to wait two weeks after that,” Costello said. “So, it’s really important that parents now are choosing to get their children caught up on other vaccines that they may have had to miss, even if they’re under age 12.”

When it comes to scheduling Covid-19 vaccinations and catching up on missed immunizations, pediatricians will need to advise patients on a case-by-case basis, Diasio told CNN.

“If I had to pick right now, for certain diseases, I do think Covid is more likely, so I would probably pick the Covid vaccine in a lot of circumstances, but definitely give the patient an appointment to come back in two weeks to get caught up on the other vaccines,” he said.

Costello said that she has treated children of various ages for Covid-19 in the hospital — from a 2-month-old baby having trouble breathing, the infant’s small chest slowly expanding up and down — to a 17-year-old teen needing oxygen support.

Costello hopes that the potential rollout of Covid-19 vaccines for children can help curb the risk of young people getting sick.

“It’s going to be important that they are vaccinated — to help protect themselves, but also to protect their families and their loved ones and their communities,” she said.

Here’s Why

There Is No Link Between The COVID-19 Vaccines And Infertility. Here’s Why:
(CNN) — It’s the claim that’s suddenly everywhere: The Covid-19 vaccine is going to make women infertile.

“No! You don’t know the science!” one woman posted on Twitter in response to naysayers. “The vaccine creates an immune response to the placenta and renders a woman sterile! They know this and this is the objective! It’s a shifty world sterilisation programme.”

As it turns out, this unfounded fear isn’t new, said vaccine expert and pediatrician Dr. Yvonne Maldonado, the chief of Stanford University School of Medicine’s division of pediatric infectious diseases, who is currently leading vaccine trials in children younger than 12.

“Oh my goodness, people have been saying this about every vaccine since I can remember,” said Maldonado, who also chairs the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Infectious Diseases. “There is no evidence that this vaccine will affect development or fertility.”

Even those who do not consider themselves anti-vaxxers are expressing worry. As one woman shared on social media, “The protein that the covid vaccine codes for is similar to a protein on the placenta, so ppl worry it could cause infertility.”

Parents are expressing concern as well, as the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers approving the Covid-19 vaccine for 12- to 15-year-olds this week.

To set the record straight, CNN reached out to Dr. Richard Beigi, who sits on the Immunization, Infectious Disease, and Public Health Preparedness Expert Work Group of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

The conversation has been lightly edited for clarity.

CNN: Some people are worried that the Covid-19 vaccines could be associated with fertility issues for adult women and also for teenagers — when the vaccine for ages 12 to 15 becomes available.

Dr. Richard Beigi: There’s never been any vaccine that’s been linked with infertility.

There is no clear scientific reason to think the new vaccine would cause fertility problems in adults. Likewise, there’s no scientific reason to believe it would cause fertility problems in teenagers. Those are the facts, regardless of how old the person is.

It is a new mRNA vaccine technology being used in the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, so I can understand theoretically how that would be unnerving to some people. But I think the more information we get, the more it shows that these new technologies are extremely effective. And in terms of vaccines, they’re quite safe.

Pregnancy is now clearly considered a high-risk category for the Covid-19 infection, as it is for other respiratory infections like influenza.

One has to weigh the risk of getting an infection versus the risk of taking the vaccine, and in in my estimation, these theoretical vaccine risks are getting weaker and weaker as we get more data.

CNN: Often people mention the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, or VAERS, showing five examples of pregnancies connected to premature separation of the placenta that occurred in the same time frame as a Covid-19 vaccine.

Beigi: VAERS is basically a system where you report anything that happens to you after a vaccine. Just like getting the flu after a flu shot, these events were very likely to have already been under way when women received the vaccines, and then they became clinically recognized after the vaccine was given.

There’s zero reason to believe any of these stories are related to the vaccine or caused by the vaccine.

If you read these reports in isolation, you would potentially be very scared. But these VAERS reports are not causal — they’re just coincidental. Here’s how we know.

Pregnant women weren’t part of the original clinical trials, but this year over 100,000 pregnant women have received one of the vaccines — mostly the mRNA vaccines of Moderna and Pfizer, but also some women have gotten the J&J vaccine.

We know this because 106,000 women who received the vaccine and signed up with government’s v-safe program said they were pregnant. Nearly 5,000 of those are being closely monitored via the CDC’s Vaccine Pregnancy Registry.

Sometimes pregnancies end in miscarriage or preeclampsia or abruption, and we know that. That’s why we’re looking at bigger groups of pregnant women who have taken the vaccine and comparing them to what we already know happens to pregnant women — and at what rates — before we had these vaccines.

As the data comes out, what we’re now seeing in these thousands of women who took the vaccine is that their pregnancy outcomes are no different than the population of pregnant women who did not get one of the vaccines.

This is very powerful because it doesn’t show any sign there’s a major issue and continues to validate what we thought — which was there’s no theoretical reason to believe these vaccines would be harmful.

CNN: Some people have posted concerns that the spike protein on the novel coronavirus will attach itself to similar receptors on the placenta and cause infertility.

Beigi: I fully understand that if people read a comment like that it could make them nervous. That’s fine, we respect that, and it’s why we talk to our patients about their concerns and counsel them.

The clinical data that continues to come out, doesn’t validate that issue as a concern. And that’s on top of the fact that, scientifically, it doesn’t make sense.

The placenta forms after conception — it actually comes from the baby’s tissue. So by definition, if you have formed a placenta, you are pregnant, you are not infertile.

It’s a new vaccine, it’s a scary disease, and people read these things online, which is all very understandable. I would think that hearing that thousands of pregnant women who have taken this vaccine and there are no signs of problems — I would hope for some people with concerns, that would be reassuring.

CNN: Many parents have said online that ‘It’s one thing for me as an adult to go out and get a shot in my arm but when I think about taking my child, that’s a whole other set of fears. I have to be super positive there’s nothing in any of these vaccines that’s going to harm my child’s future.” What’s your message to these parents?

Beigi: I fully understand being overly concerned about the future of your child. I have two teenage girls myself. And I am undoubtedly going to get my two teenage girls immunized when the vaccine is available in my area.

My message to parents is this: You have to weigh the risk of getting the Covid-19 infection versus the safety of the vaccines. The US Food and Drug Administration would not issue authorization for teens if there were major signs of problems. There was absolutely no reason to think there’s going to be new problems in this age group.

CBS’ Matt Weiss spoke to The Neighborhood’s Sheaun McKinney and Marcel Spears ahead of tonight’s episode to discuss working with icons like Cedric The Entertainer and Tichina Arnold, acting without a crowd and what viewers can expect tonight!

MW: Hey guys, nice to see you today! The Neighborhood is a few season in now but I’m sure filming this season was very different than the first two. Was there anything that you’ve picked up during this that you think will be beneficial moving forward?

SM: That’s an interesting question. I think for me and maybe Marcel as well, we both come from the stage, so we have a live audience. For me that added something. I guess not having the live audience probably made me tune in a little bit more. But I personally missed a live audience.

MS: I did too. Man, it was weird. It’s interesting, because without the live audience you have for most of the week, just the crew. They’ve heard the script a million times. They heard it at the table read, they heard it every day at rehearsal. By the time we get to shooting, they’re kind of over it. It’s a tough crowd. [Laughs]

We do have some laughers to give us that sense, the humor, the timing of it, but it’s been weird. I will say this, working on a multicam is probably the best schedule you ever have in TV. Not having to do the live audience shows, which sometimes can go late into the evening, has been an interesting little bonus during this quarantine situation. I’m sure my castmates that have kids would appreciate that and agree.

MW: Speaking of the cast I know you all get along so well like a real family. What is it about this group that makes everyone click so well?

SM: I always think it starts at the top. Generally speaking, when you work on something and probably in any medium in life, wherever you work, if the person at the top is really humble, like Cedric is, it’s going to jump down.

He’s going to set a tone that if I’m like this, you would have no reason not to be. Cedric is the nicest dude you will ever meet. I think we all just all genuinely like each other, like Marcel and I clicked the moment we met. I have so much admiration and respect for everybody in the cast.

MS: I think in Hollywood, especially in this business, you hear so many horror stories about feuds onset and people pretending to like each other for camera but when it’s all said and done they go their own way. I’m just I’m so grateful and honored and blessed that we do not have that kind of vibe on the show.

It’s one of those moments that a little bit of luck, a little bit of a blessing, and a little bit of everybody on our show just wants to make good TV and wants to provide for their families and really enjoy making the show that we’re making.

MW: What was it like when you got that call and you found out you were going to be on a show with Cedric?

MS: Yo, it was insane because people don’t know this. Me and Sheaun got cast first. Me and Sheaun got cast in the show before Cedric was attached, before Tachina, before Max and Beth. I was just happy to have a job. I had just gotten off a show that got canceled very abruptly. I was like, dang, what do I do? What’s going to happen to me?

Me and Sheaun met and at our final audition I was just like, alright, this is a good vibe, this is happening. I don’t know if you texted me or if you called me, but one when they announced that Cedric was going to be part of the show. Sheaun was like, yeah, man, we’re going to get picked up. [Laughs]

SM: Yeah, we’re going to be alright. What Marcel is leaving out is that he and I read for the same role. We read for his role and Marcel got the part. Then they asked me to come in and read for the older brother. I got it and I told him like, yo, man, I guess I will see you on set.

Then when I saw that Cedric joined the show I texted Marcel, I was like, do you see who’s playing our father? I couldn’t believe it. Then Tachina as well, because we watched Tachina every night on Martin. We grew up watching Cedric. Sometimes it’s still surreal.

MS: Yeah, 100%.

MW: It’s like a cheat code. You found out you got Cedric and knew you were getting picked up.

SM: Absolutely.

MS: It’s bananas. Cedric and Tachina. The weight that they carry just in this business. Once they said that Cedric was going to play our dad, I feel like my mom was actually proud of me for the first time being an actor. [laughs] She was like, my son is doing good. Like, you’re doing alright.

MW: [Laughs] Absolutely! So what can viewers expect from tonight’s new episode?

MS: Without sharing too much, Marty is encouraged to step out there and just put himself out there. Like, a lot of millennials are using these dating apps. Things go horribly awry in this episode.

SM: That happens sometimes in life. You know what I mean? These apps can lead you to believe that you can be somebody that you’re not. You learn a valuable lesson. [laughs]

MW: Looking forward it! Thanks so much for the time today guys and all the best moving forward!

SM: Thanks, Matt.

MS: Thank you!

(AP) — Virginia’s Washington and Lee University is expected to announce this summer whether or not it will change its name, nearly a year after a committee was formed to evaluate the school’s ties to Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, according to a board of trustees official.

Washington and Lee Board of Trustees Rector Mike McAlevey gave the June deadline last week in an email to the campus community, the Roanoke Times reported.

In July, the university formed a committee to gather input from campus stakeholders and experts to help make a recommendation on dropping Lee’s name from the school. The move came a little more than a month after George Floyd’s killing, and as protests against racial injustice swept the country.

Lee was named president of what was then Washington College shortly after the end of the Civil War in 1865, serving in the role until his death in 1870. His name was then added to the school alongside George Washington’s. Lee’s body lies in a tomb on the Lexington campus.

University faculty members voted 188-51 in favor of removing Lee’s name during a virtual meeting in July. And in March, a student group held a walkout event in support of a renaming. Still, some students and alumni have opposed the change, using the slogan “Retain the Name” on billboards and banners to advocate for keeping Lee in the title, according to the Roanoke Times.

(WJZ) — After weather postponed it twice, a rocket launch from Wallops Island is expected Monday night and will be visible across the Eastern seaboard.

In a tweet, NASA said the weather is looking better for a launch attempt Monday night.

The launch window is scheduled for 8:04 p.m. and will stay open for 40 minutes.

The launch window will open at 8:04 p.m. EDT and stay open for 40 minutes. We have a 60% chance of favorable cloud cover conditions for the camera sites at Wallops and Bermuda. https://t.co/94r0BlGfI6

The NASA suborbital sounding rocket is a part of a mission, KiNETic-scale energy and momentum transport eXperiment or KiNet-X, to explore energy transport in space.

The launch is expected to provide a brief light show for residents across the eastern United States to the Mississippi River and Bermuda.

There’s a 60% chance of favorable cloud conditions.

WALLOPS ISLAND, VIRGINIA – OCTOBER 29: A Northrop Grumman Antares rocket is seen as it rolls out to Pad-0A, Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia. Northrop Grummans 12th contracted cargo resupply mission with NASA to the International Space Station will deliver about 8,200 pounds of science and research, crew supplies and vehicle hardware to the orbital laboratory and its crew. Launch is scheduled for 9:59 a.m. EDT Saturday, Nov. 2. (Photo by Bill Ingalls/NASA via Getty Images)

“A four-stage Black Brant XII rocket will be used for the mission that includes the release of barium vapor that will form two green-violet clouds that may be visible for about 30 seconds,” NASA said in a release. “The barium vapor is not harmful to the environment or public health.”

NASA will study a very fundamental problem in space plasmas, namely, how are energy and momentum transported between different regions of space that are magnetically connected?

The vapor will be released for 9 minutes and 30 seconds to around 10 minutes after launch when the rocket is 217-249 miles altitude over the Atlantic Ocean and 540-560 miles downrange from Wallops

Once the vapor is released, the vapor clouds will quickly ionize and take on a violet color.

“The ionized portion of the cloud becomes tied to the magnetic field lines and diffuses parallel to the field lines but not perpendicular to it. In the mid-Atlantic region latitudes, the field lines are inclined by about 45 degrees to the horizontal, so the violet clouds stretch out in a slanted orientation and look more like short trails than a cloud. Because the motion of the neutral portion of the clouds is not constrained by the magnetic field lines, they spread out more quickly and become too thin to see with the naked eye much sooner than the ionized component,” NASA said.

In general, the human eye does not see violet colors very well in darkness. The KiNET-X clouds will therefore be more difficult for the casual observer to see than some of the previous vapor missions launched from Wallops.

You can watch live coverage of the launch on NASA’s website.
